Join our campaign to have ‘movie type’ children's book ratings applied to children’s books:

Why: We dream of a world in which parents can easily decide what is appropriate for their children. We want children to grow up safe, not just physically but from exposure to concepts and ideas that should come later.

This is not about censorship, this is about choosing when the exposure happens and not leaving that to chance.

In our dream, parents have more capacity to manage the material given to their children, so that exposure to some themes can be age related. It would be so much easier for parents if children's book ratings were printed on the cover of each book.

A number of studies done in the United States and Canada have shown a positive relationship between early exposure to TV violence and physical aggressiveness in later life.

Clearly what children are exposed to effects them later in life. We wanted to help parents of reading children choose what their children are exposed to in the same way movie ratings assist parents.

This means if a children's book is rated ‘G’ you could give it to your 7 year old. If it’s rated PG, better take a look first.

If you agree with trying to have children's book ratings printed on the cover of children's books, please take up the task also with government and publishers.

We have some templates that might make this easier. Please feel free to use them or not, or edit them as you please. Sometimes it can be hard with letters such as these to work out where to start, We hope these templates help.

The more people involved in our cause the more chance we have of achieving change and realising our dream of having movie type ratings recorded on every children's book.

A special thank you to member for Mulgrave, Curtis Pitt for taking up the issue and writing to the Queensland Premier. We hope the Premier will use her influence with the Australian Government to ensure this change occurs.
